New and Creative Treatments for the Plantar Fascia

with Whitfield Reaves

Recording

from December 1, 2020

Register for FREE!

Overview

Join Whitfield Reaves to learn how to diagnose this common source of foot pain, and treat both plantar fasciitis as well as the more current condition often called plantar fasciosis. They are different conditions, need differentiation, and there are several creative and precise treatments that can assist clinically. The practitioner needs to understand how to target the tissues of the fascia as well as including the all important abductor hallucis muscle. Often left out of heel pain treatments, this muscle to the big toe plays a significant role in both pain and the healing process. The practitioner, with this information, can find some more gentle and relatively pain free point combinations to use in treating plantar pain. After the lecture, we will have an audience Q&A session with Whitfield. This session is designed to make sure each practitioner is clear on the precise treatment needed in plantar fasciitis and plantar fasciosis. But we intend to open up the rest of this free webinar to all questions. "Ask us anything", on any topic of sports acupuncture. This should be fun! For our friends in timezones that can not join us live, feel free to register to watch the recording.

Overview

Nutrition is within the scope of practice of California acupuncturists but in our schools we are not trained to use individual amino acids and a pro-recovery diet to quickly stop cravings for drugs, behaviors, and food. Yet, decades of research and empirical evidence support these quick and efficient treatment modalities. Meanwhile, during COVID-19, citizens isolated and quarantined are eating and drinking like never before. Sales of alcohol have increased 55% this year compared to last year at this time and the Mayo Clinic calls the result of our new compulsive eating habits "the quarantine 15". This presentation reminds participants that their patients may not list overeating or over drinking or over drugging on the intake form but a great number of them ARE in the throes of addiction. Food addiction, alone, is the most dangerous and most common addiction in the United States, causing obesity and diabetes at epic levels in younger and younger individuals. On top of that anxiety and depression are epidemic and most commonly treated with pharmaceuticals such as SSRIs, SNRIs, and highly addictive benzodiazepines. Yet we as acupuncturists have at our fingertips not only excellent acupuncture points as a response, but also useful nutritional tools in amino acids and menu choices. I will detail each of the five amino acids that are useful to respond to patient needs, with results apparent within fifteen minutes, and offer the simple questionnaire that helps the practitioner figure out what the patient's most pressing needs are at that time. The same questionnaire helps both patient and practitioner figure out what dose is needed and when the supplements can be stopped.

Elements of old trauma can be relived with sensory and emotional intensity. Even so, the patients often do not have a clear recollection or precise memory about what happened. But their body does. Energetic patterns set up in the body can “run” the system. Once you discover the patterns, they can be unraveled with acupuncture.

Five Sports Injuries, Five Points to Treat

with Whitfield Reaves

Recording

from April 14, 2020

Register for FREE!

Overview

We often come to expect that many a case is complicated and requires analysis and the assessment is layered and complex. Yet, Occam's Razor, a somewhat obscure tenant of philosophy, states that, simply expressed, "the simplest solution is most likely the right one”. Whitfield Reaves will present five common sports injury and pain syndromes, and explain how it is common and likely that each of these cases could be treated by one specific point. No longer the long list of point combinations to cover all aspect of the presentation of the patient – one point. Of course, we would need know how to correctly locate and needle the point, but, what a relief. One point, and great results. While of course this is not always possible, listen to Whitfield's adaptation of Occam's theory of "keeping it simple", and its application in medicine. And, maybe even come away with one-point treatment plans for a few common injuries! Whitfield Reaves is the author of The Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program, and his webinars are quite popular on the Net of Knowledge platform.

Overview

We generally know how herbs work either from Chinese or scientific theory or a combination of both. But why do they work? What in the history of plants, animals, and evolution created the benefits of these healthy little bundles? This lecture will examine these questions, in a mind-opening and scientific (but not overwhelming) approach, by exploring Gaia theory, planetary autopoiesis, DNA, and Plant–Human Coalitions.

Overview

Recent research with people with intrinsic asthma shows that they all have a blockage or pathological re-routing somewhere along the Urinary Bladder, the shunt into the Kidney channel at UB-40, or the portion of the Kidney channel that runs from the knee to the adrenal gland: the route of the UB channel divergence. Restoring the correct channel qi flow throughout this route terminates not just a person’s asthma attack, but ends the person’s tendency for asthma. Period.
