Overview

5.5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, considered the 6th most common cause of death in the United States, but according to the National Institute of Health, it should be ranked third. While the most common form of dementia, there are lots of different types other than Alzheimer’s. This course will examine these dementias from both biomedical and Chinese points of view, and discuss Chinese medical diagnostics and therapeutics. Often biomedical treatment involves pharmaceuticals with adverse drug reactions. Chinese medicine can help treat and support patients with dementia. Participants will leave with a real-world approach to treating these conditions.

Overview

We generally know how herbs work either from Chinese or scientific theory or a combination of both. But why do they work? What in the history of plants, animals, and evolution created the benefits of these healthy little bundles? This lecture will examine these questions, in a mind-opening and scientific (but not overwhelming) approach, by exploring Gaia theory, hormesis and xenohormesis, planetary autopoiesis, DNA and epigenetics, and Plant–Human Coalitions. This will be a logical and philosophical exploration of herbs, why and how co-evolution has played a role in their effectiveness.

Overview

People often suffer as they die, and we as acupuncturists can help in the assistance of their death. We help them relax and let go; this softening offers release from their fears and anxieties. Acupuncture in hospice care allows the person the opportunity to participate consciously in their own dying process.

Overview

Skin disorders in their various forms are amongst the most common diseases suffered by mankind, accounting for no less than 1 in 5 of all visits to out-patients departments in the Western world. Despite this prevalence and the resources put into this field, many patients are dissatisfied with the conventional treatments available to them, and look elsewhere for solutions. In fact, Chinese herbal medicine has a very real and enduring answer for a significant number of sufferers of many chronic diseases of the skin such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea etc.

Since dermatology is essentially a visual art, a great deal of information can be gleaned from detailed inspection of the way skin diseases manifest. In this short webinar, Mazin will outline some of the axiomatic concepts of Chinese medicine dermatology, using many photographic images and some case examples to illustrate the fundamentals that are required in understanding and treating skin disease.
