Edward Neal

Biography

Dr. Edward Neal was originally trained as an allopathic physician with a specialty in Internal Medicine. He graduated with honors from the University of New Mexico Medical School and completed his specialty training in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He currently maintains active licenses in both Western and Chinese medicine.

In the early 1990’s he began training in acupuncture and incorporating complementary medicine within his work in the allopathic field. His training continued with post-graduate studies in Chinese languages at Portland State University, as well as advanced studies in classical Chinese languages at Heilongjiang University in Harbin, China. He is the director of the Xinglin Institute (www.xinglininstitute.org) a collaborative research group that studies traditional East Asian medical practices looking for innovative solutions to current global health problems. He is currently a visiting scholar in East Asian Medicine at the University of California Medical School in San Diego.

Dr. Neal’s primary research focuses on the study of classical Chinese acupuncture based on direct translations of classical texts such as the Huangdi Neijing and the use of traditional medical practices to address current global health challenges. He has lectured both locally and internationally in areas related to classical acupuncture and Neijing medical theory. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
